Top Ten Tuesday- Ten Books that were SUPPOSED to be Scary and were NOT

Top Ten Tuesday is a fun meme hosted by the great Broke and Bookish. This week it is a Halloween Themed Choose Your Own Topic. I have chosen ten books that were supposed to be scary but were not.

All these books were supposed to give me chills, or be creepy, scary and possibly cause me to look behind quickly, is there someone there, watching me? Instead the were boring and not the least bit scary, bordering on dull and not  suspenseful. Now some of these might have had a few scary scenes, but not enough for me to still REALLY like the book.

Now this is just MY opinion, but I have a pretty high standard when it comes to ghost stories and horror novels. The Haunting of Hill House and The Shining are two of my favorites. If I can still read you, alone, with the lights dimmed you are not scary enough.

1)Boy Meets Girl Massacre

2)Ten

3) Asylum

4) The Poisoned House

5) The Turn of the Screw

6) Ghost House

7) Wild Fell

8) The Supernatural Enhancements

9) House of Darkness House of Light

10)  Blood and Salt

  1. Asylum LOOKS super creepy. And Blood and Salt is on my TBR - is it worth the read even if it wasn't scary?

    1. Asylum has a creepier cover than a story, but the series is still a fun read. Blood and Salt was ok, I had some issues with it, insta love and Mary Sue MC but still fun. Read them and see what you think! :)

  2. Turn of the Screw was slightly scary for me, but then I'm a wimp. lol But it was also boring at times. So I totally get it. :D
Also Asylum wasn't scary? Huh, I've been thinking about reading it but wasn't sure if it would be too much for me. Thanks! :)

  4. Interesting take on the topic! I felt that way about Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde and Frankenstein. I was expecting to be super scared with both and nah...

  5. I feel like books are not scary, I am not sure if it is the lack of scary music or what lol!

    1. I thought Blood and Salt was OK, Asylum was pretty fun to read and I thought Ten was awful. But I know people who loved all three ;)
